A proper calculation of the insured sum, through an insurance-focused valuation, allows:

• The derogation of the “proportional rule” that would be applicable after a claim and in the event of underinsurance.
• A saving on the current premium, if overinsurance is detected.
•  In the case of advanced valuations, it is possible to know the sums insured by location within each Risk Situation and at a global level, in the case of large accounts.

• Insurable amount: Effective value of insured interest.
• Insured amount: the value stated by the Insured in the property damage policy, which determines the compensation limit, serving as the basis for calculating the premium.

The sum insured may be established on the basis of the following concepts:

•  Replacement Value to New, and/or
• Actual value, considering the depreciation that must be deducted from the previous concept according to age, use, wear and tear and state of conservation (DRC method, or Depreciated Replacement Cost).
